 Magic Number FAQs

  • In Magic Number, the answer to every question is a number, and the closest guess wins! It’s alright if your guess is either over or under the correct answer; all that matters is who is closest.

  • Magic Number contains: 270 question cards, 10 dry erase guess boards, 10 dry erase markers, and a copy of the instructions.

You will also need at least one phone and an Internet connection to play, though it’s best if everyone has their own phone.

  • Magic Number comes with materials for 3 to 10 people to play at once.

  • Anyone, really! As long as you can guess a number, you can play. However, Magic Number is recommended for players ages 13+.

  • It varies depending on how many people are playing, but the average game will probably last around 30 to 60 minutes.

  • After a question is asked, everyone writes down a number-based guess. The player whose guess is closest to the correct answer is the winner for that question and will get to keep the question card. The first player to collect 7 question cards is the winner!

  • If multiple players tie for the closest guess, they will be asked a tiebreaker using a different version of the question from the same card.

If the same card can’t be used, draw a new card from the deck to ask the tiebreaker. If a new card is drawn, the ultimate winner only gets to keep 1 question card though.

  • Magic Number has questions across three categories. The bottom left of each card notates that question’s category.

Internet says... questions test your knowledge of random facts and other information that can be found online. Internet connection required!

Do you know me? questions are about the lives and personalities of your friends. How well do you really know them?

Prove it! questions are based on trivial details about your friends that they can “prove” or challenges they have to complete.

  • The blue, underlined text indicates that players are able to customize the question. The blue, underlined text may prompt players to choose an option based on a category (like a city or an animal) or to pick between two or three choices that will be separated by a slash “/”.

For example, if the question read “What was the hottest/coldest temperature ever recorded in country?”, you could pick between hottest & coldest, then choose a country. So the question might ultimately read “What was the coldest temperature ever recorded in Vietnam?”.

Because of the ability to customize questions, Magic Number will always be unique and exciting, no matter how many times you play!

  • On questions in the “Internet says…” category, the player who read the question will have to use the Internet to find the answer. We’ve made sure that answers to questions are relatively easy to find through a simple search, but below you can find a couple of tips:

Some questions have a QR code, as answers to these questions may not always come up when searching. Before reading the question aloud, scan the QR code to view a helpful list online.

If you pick an obscure city, country, animal, etc., it may be difficult to find the answer online. It may help to stick to more well-known topics.

See the next FAQ for more related information as well.

  • When looking up information on the Internet, you may find various answers and large ranges. To make it easy, use the first answer you can find, and if an answer has a range, use the middle of that range as the correct answer.
